Count Your Blessings!

I am now into my third week as Director of the Homeless Shelter in our home town.  We have have been so blessed to have so many wonderful folks who have stopped by and blessed us financially and with much needed items for the residents.  I have worked long hard days but today I want to count my blessings and the blessings of the shelter.

The wonderful folks from our local sleep outfitters blessed us with new mattresses.  The guy who drove the truck and delivered the mattresses took his day off to travel 2 hours one way to make sure we got the donated mattresses,.  The owner of the local store came and helped us get the mattresses upstairs.  I thank God for people who are willing to give from what they have and to give freely of their time.

On Sunday the Native American Alriders Motorcyle club had a fundraiser ride for the shelter.  They were a great group and stopped by on the ride and toured the shelter.  They raised over $500.00 for the shelter.

The 4th grade class of Central Baptist Church in Corbin Ky brought new Bibles and toiletries for the residents.  Several of our residents needed Bibles.  It was so wonderful to see the excitement on their faces.  They each had their Bibles in Bible study this morning.

We take so many things for granted.  Most of us have several Bibles. We can take a bath or shower when we want.  We get to lay down in a warm comfy bed.  We may not be wealthy but we have what we need.  There are those who do not have these things.  Today I am thankful......

I am thankful for those who are willing to give to others.

Blessings!

Sweet Scripture Sunday!!!

"Hosanna to the Son of David!"
" Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"
"Hosanna in the Highest!"
when Jesus entered Jerusalem the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?"
The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."

Today is Palm Sunday, traditionally celebrated  in our churches the Sunday before Easter (The Resurrection).

How excited Jesus must have been as he entered Jerusalem
when the people reacted with such excitement.
Only a few days later he would find the crowd would turn against him.
But on this day the people shouted, "Hosanna".
Which expresses both prayer and praise!

Isn't it funny how people seem to follow along when something exciting happens.
It does not matter whether it be positive or negative......
It is about what the "crowd" is doing.
This scripture reads, "the whole city was stirred and asked, "who is this?"

I can just picture the people seeing the crowd gathering.
Hearing the shouting......
They come running up and join in...
not even realizing who it is...
or why he is there....
How sad......
The savior of the world has just arrived.
and the people missed it!

As we enter this Easter season let us not forget.....

JESUS......

Our savior, our Redeemer and our Friend!

He is everything His name claims him to be....

and because of him we are Joint heirs with the Kingdom of God!

Yes, we have reason to celebrate....
not just today......
But everyday!

Be Blessed!!!

Patty

Urgent Prayer Request:

To all my wonderful Sisters in Christ in Blog land.
Please pray for me as things are changing very quickly for us.
My position as Director of the Homeless Shelter
has been very time consuming
and straining.
So many needs.....
and so much to learn.

My husband is finishing up all his paperwork and tests for the Chaplaincy at the FCI in Manchester.
Pray all goes well.
I appreciate your prayers!
Blessings!

Sweet Scripture Sunday!!!

Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the
counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat if mockers,
But his delight is in the law
of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates
day and night.

He is like a tree planted by the streams of water,
which yields its fruit in
season
and whose leaf does not
wither,
Whatever he does prospers.
Not so the wicked!
they are like chaff
that the wind blows away,
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement
nor sinners in the assembly of the Righteous,
For the Lord watches over the
way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 1

Over our new "old" home towers a huge oak tree.
It stands tall and proud.
During the past several weeks some major storms with strong winds
have hit our area.
but the old tree keeps standing.
My husband says we need to cut it in fear it might fall.
I refuse too!
I love the shade, privacy and beauty it gives to our home.
In Psalm One, we are reminded there are two ways of life:
The way of the righteous or the way of the sinner.
We choose how we want to live and where we stand.

In this Psalm, "Blessed" means the happy condition
of those who revere the Lord and do his will.
So often we look at blessed as to what we have
or what we do not have.
To be blessed is not about wealth and health
but the assurance and experience
that we live under the guardianship and faithful care
of our Gracious and caring Lord of Life!

The Psalmist gives reference to a Mighty Tree.
It is a picture image of the blessedness of the Righteous.
Just like a strong tree withstands the blows of the winds and storms,
and yet flourishes!
All the while it blesses people, animals and birds with its
unfailing fruit and shade.
We, as the Righteous, should live in the same way.

I have found over the past few weeks,
 people are watching to see
how our family reacts
to storms that have come into our life.
Are we still standing strong?
Yes, the winds have been hard and we have felt the power of the blows.
It is not until the storm that others see who we are.
During the storm our strength, comfort and shelter is in the Power of our Lord
and the truth of his Word.
It is the only way we can remain standing and still be a blessing!

How about you?

Have you ever stopped to think........

My life can be a blessing to someone else......

My blog can be a blessing to someone else......

How are you standing?

Have a joyous and Blessed day!
I pray that the shelter of our mighty Lord and the truth of his Word
helps you to be strong in the midst of whatever storm you may be in!

Blessings!
