Sweet Scripture Sunday!!!

Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the
counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat if mockers,
But his delight is in the law
of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates
day and night.

He is like a tree planted by the streams of water,
which yields its fruit in
season
and whose leaf does not
wither,
Whatever he does prospers.
Not so the wicked!
they are like chaff
that the wind blows away,
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement
nor sinners in the assembly of the Righteous,
For the Lord watches over the
way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 1

Over our new "old" home towers a huge oak tree.
It stands tall and proud.
During the past several weeks some major storms with strong winds
have hit our area.
but the old tree keeps standing.
My husband says we need to cut it in fear it might fall.
I refuse too!
I love the shade, privacy and beauty it gives to our home.
In Psalm One, we are reminded there are two ways of life:
The way of the righteous or the way of the sinner.
We choose how we want to live and where we stand.

In this Psalm, "Blessed" means the happy condition
of those who revere the Lord and do his will.
So often we look at blessed as to what we have
or what we do not have.
To be blessed is not about wealth and health
but the assurance and experience
that we live under the guardianship and faithful care
of our Gracious and caring Lord of Life!

The Psalmist gives reference to a Mighty Tree.
It is a picture image of the blessedness of the Righteous.
Just like a strong tree withstands the blows of the winds and storms,
and yet flourishes!
All the while it blesses people, animals and birds with its
unfailing fruit and shade.
We, as the Righteous, should live in the same way.

I have found over the past few weeks,
 people are watching to see
how our family reacts
to storms that have come into our life.
Are we still standing strong?
Yes, the winds have been hard and we have felt the power of the blows.
It is not until the storm that others see who we are.
During the storm our strength, comfort and shelter is in the Power of our Lord
and the truth of his Word.
It is the only way we can remain standing and still be a blessing!

How about you?

Have you ever stopped to think........

My life can be a blessing to someone else......

My blog can be a blessing to someone else......

How are you standing?

Have a joyous and Blessed day!
I pray that the shelter of our mighty Lord and the truth of his Word
helps you to be strong in the midst of whatever storm you may be in!

Blessings!

Patty

  1. Your post today came as a confirmation of things I've been thinking about this week. In fact, this very Psalm is one of those that I was trying to write down --- praying it back to the Lord in a prayer. We are being watched. As soon as we write something down, make a blog post, or confess our faith, we are watched constantly. Some seem to wait for us to fall, others encourage us along the way. There is one thing I've noticed when a large tree falls: The problem is always in the roots. In fact, the ones I've seen seem to have almost NO roots and the ones there are very shallow. We had a huge oak tree go down in our yard from the very bottom -- Not just a cracked trunk. The wind whipped it up from the bottom. And there was very little root there. Made start doing some "root checking" in my own life.

The only way I can be a shade tree to someone else is to make sure my roots are planted deep by the rivers of water!!!

Thank you so much, Patty, for this post. It was such an encouragement to me!

  4. I'm trying to stand tall every day and I put it out there on my blog. I have lost some followers along the way but I have gained some, too. Give God His place first and everything else falls into place. Great post.

  8. Hi Patty...I've only just read your post from a week ago and I posted a very similar post this Sunday! I used the theme of trees and the same verse about trees...without knowing about yours...lol..I think God obviously wants us to meditate on that thought! You are without doubt great examples of His strength to the community. Have a lovely week and enjoy His continual care!
