Sweet Scripture Sunday

While searching through the many dozens of books
we have stored in our attic for a project (more about that later)....
I found this little beauty!

This is one of my all time favorite reads......
One of those books that just inspire you to be different...
I have read it at least 4 times....

Many of you may be familiar with the movement
that derived from this book...

WWJD

What Would Jesus Do?

In the nineties there were
WWJD bracelets, t-shirts, Bumper stickers.....
It hit the Christian society..big time!
Do you remember it?

Now back to the project.....
Old Book Wreath...book wreath

I have always loved the book wreaths I have seen in blog land
and on Pinterest.

Knowing that I had so many books
and an upcoming move (get rid of books)
Ah ha!
Up to the attic....
searching through books...
to find the perfect books for the wreath...

At first I thought the little black was just perfect...
The right wear....
The right color....
The right thickness...

But after looking through it again...
I just could not..

I got this book years ago in a give away....

An old library book
with check-out dates and signatures.
Handwritten notes on almost every page.
"How do you suffer because of your religion?"
"self is forgotten in presenting Christ."
Just precious!!!

So I brought it down
and it is going with me....
The wreath....
Well..some other books paid the price...

After several hours of tearing, folding, gluing
The end result....

Well.... I love it!

It took 3 books to do the thing...
The wreath is filled with scripture...
Spiritual sayings...
Biblical devotions...
Just like the old book
I will now cherish the wreath too.

Just a reminder to me of the work that Christ can do in an individuals life.
Taking the useless, tattered, hopeless and discarded
and
Making them new....
A masterpiece on display...
Something to be used for his glory.

II Corinthians 5:17 NIV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
the new creation has come:
The old has gone, the new is here!

Ephesians 2:10 ESV
For we are his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand,
that we should walk in them.

Lord, may my life be a masterpiece on display of your Love!
To You Lord, be the Glory!

BLESSINGS!

  3. What an awesome idea. I do remember that movement and still see it in places today. I also remember Mr and Mrs Santa Claus made out of old reader digest.

  4. Yes, I think I remember reading "In His Steps" years and years ago--it certainly would be worth a reread.

Love your wreath and the fact that it contains so many precious things.

    Blessings and love,

  6. What a cute and creative wreath! I see lots of projects with pages of old books, but I can never cut the pages out! I usually get to reading the book (just like you did) and decide I can't tear it up. Maybe one day I'll find a book that I feel ok with tearing the pages from haha.

  8. Happy good morning to you Patty,

I want to thank you first for visiting my blog...always nice to see your sweet face show up there.

Okay...I'm so out of the LOOP so to speak. I honestly DID NOT KNOW where that saying came from...well, what I mean is I didn't know there was a book back in the 90's about it...saw all the 'items' with it on though...but the the origin of it. Thanks for the update and lesson.

Looooove those wreaths...we were at a craft show this past Christmas and saw many, many projects done with book pages. Just beautiful.

  9. Your wreath looks great! I make and sell tons of these and I use books I find at the thrift store mostly. And OLD readers digest condensed books are good because the old books don't have the gilded edge but a deckle edge instead. Thanks for visiting my blog by the way!!!

  10. Hi Patty,
So nice to meet you and find your blog. What a lovely site. I love your wreath using the old book pages. Just gorgeous. I have designed these too and love the process.
I do remember WWJD. Still thought provoking to this day.
I so enjoyed my visit and a new follower too.
Have a blessed day and happy creating.
    Hugs, Celestina Marie
