Sweet Sunday Scripture....

As I was traveling one of the  many country roads here in Kentucky a few weeks ago
I spied this beauty......

Yes, She stopped me in my tracks....
There I was in the middle of the road snapping pics...
Fortunately, there are very few cars on the roads...
The houses are very spread out...
So, I snapped away....

My heart ached to see her just sitting there.....
all alone...
Being used as a hay barn.....

Oh the detail....
The colors....
I see beauty in all her chippy goodness.....

How I would love to have those old shutters...
The posts....
The Corbels...
The gingerbread trim....
She was a fine lady in her day.....

Yet, she still had charm and a beauty that just awed me...

It made me think about the days of old.....
The stories that were told on her porch.....
The children who played in her yard...
and now, she just sits there quietly.......
hoping someone will notice...
That someone will recognize her usefulness.....
It made me think of my Grandmother....
and other elderly folks who may be alone..
just sitting waiting for someone to notice!
Who feel they have no purpose because of their age...
Yet, they have much to offer..
Stop, pay attention....
Talk with them....
Remind them they are worthy....
They are useful...
They have purpose....
They have much to share.

Is not wisdom found among the aged?
Does not long life bring understanding?
 Job 12:12

Have a great week and hug your Grandparents...

Blessings!

PATTY

  5. Girl, I think about old houses just the same. I think of how the house was once someone's dream come true. I wonder about whether they knew the Lord, whether they had children, whether they were happy.

You might check with county records. You may be able to find out who owns it. Maybe he would want to sell some of the gingerbread you like so much.

    Blessings,

  6. Hi Patty! First off, love your header. So fun. I love this old house. She is so charming and if her walls could talk, she would have much to say. You are right about the older ones and we need to slow down and let them know that we know they have value. My grandparents are all gone, and our parents, now. But I have adopted some older souls to keep me smiling and they are so full of knowledge on everything. I hope you were safe from the storms yesterday. We dodged them left and right, but we are ok.

  7. Great post Patty, and it is so true, thank you for reminding us to slow down a little and take time for our elders. Life passes quickly and fades like a flower, and it's only what we do for Christ that will last. And He said that ye do unto others, ye do also unto me. Have a Blessed day, Trisha

  10. I love old houses...and it makes me sad to see them forgotten. They're all so full of character...not the cookie-cutter homes we see so much today.I know it takes oodles of money, time, and commitment to restore them...it's hard. But I agree...if only they could talk, would love to hear her stories!

  11. I love that old house and I can just imagine the good times when a big family lived there. It would be nice to have a glimpse! Enjoy your week and keep taking the time to photograph wonderful old buildings like this. They won't be with us forever!

  12. Patty, you KNOW those walls have sotries to tell. Of love, laughter, heartbreak, I can just hear them now. I always wanted to redo an old house. That is what my friend Sandi did at Daybreak PLace. It looked worse than any of these.

  13. Oh my goodness, how that place must have looked just a short time ago. Gorgeous place under all that mess. This makes me sad too. But taking pictures and sharing brings it to life. Thanks for posting.

  14. Oh, I just love old houses, and this one truly is a treasure. It makes me so sad when I see them falling apart and abandoned. I dream of redoing an old house someday.
