A Painting Mission........

I have been away from home this week....
Not on a vacation...
On a mission...
A painting Mission....

Mission: An ambition or purpose that is assumed
by a person or group........

My Hubby and I made our oldest daughter an island for her kitchen as a Christmas gift...
We live in Kentucky...
She is in Tennessee...
We knew it would be several weeks before we could deliver the Island...
This was delivery week.....

After we set the Island in place....
My daughter (with much encouragement from me)
Decides we need to paint the dark brown cabinets....
The kitchen is so dark.....
She has been wanting to lighten things up...
and simplify her decor....

Thus.......The Mission.....The Painting mission........

First things first:
We needed to change up the look of the cabinets...
We talked Pops (aka: my Hubby) into to adding molding to the top and bottom of the cabinets...
She was wanting more of a french Country look....
Molding was a must!

Next:
Choosing the right color.....
Going along with the French Country look.....
We settled on this gray..

Pops built this Cubby a few months back...
It is a great place for the kids to dump...
I mean place their backpacks, shoes and instruments...
As they enter from school.

The paint color is from HGTV Ovation paint from Lowes...
The color is perfect Gray....
We bought a semi-gloss...

We removed all the knobs and handles....
A light sanding before painting is a must!
We did not remove the cabinet doors....
I carefully painted around the hinges.
I touched any spots up with an oil brushed bronze paint.
We created the color from two different acrylic paints from Hobby Lobby.
One was metallic Black.
The other was metallic bronze..
Mix the two together....
Perfect!

I also used a small amount of Limewash Glaze from Lowes on the doors...

Now for the results...

You will notice the "LOVE" banner...
Learn more about it here...

I love her chalkboard....
Its an old picture frame.....
I love the scripture verse....

I think it is always good to help others.....
To share our time and talents to do something good for someone else...
I think my daughter was very happy.....

I think we can say.......
Mission Accomplished!

"Do not neglect to do good
and to share what you have,
for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."
Hebrews 13:16

Have a great week!

Its a Banner Day!

Today has been a "banner" day...

I recently found a box full of old hymnals at a Barn sale...
Beautiful old hymnals...
They were worn with just the perfect patina...

Can you imagine all the hands that have held these...
The sound of voices singing in unison..
Oh, the memories..
What a blessing!

I just had to bring them home and give them a new life...
A new purpose.....

BANNER TIME!

You will need:

A little paint...
Letter Stencils.... (ABC'S)
A brush....
The Brush needs to be a stiff round stencil brush
If you do not have one use a make up sponge..
Of course, a paper plate for the paint.....
Let's get started....

It was so simple....
I Placed the letter stencil on a hymnal page
or whatever you may be stenciling...
I used a 4 inch stencil.
It was so easy to get it even...
I just placed the top of the stencil directly under the title of the hymn...
It fit perfectly.
Dip stencil brush in paint ....
(It does not take much paint)
While holding the stencil in one hand,
Begin pouncing paint into stencil outline...
if you get to much paint on your brush just pounce excess paint on a paper towel....
To much paint will cause the paint to run outside the lines of stencil.
Less is better......

Begin stenciling...
I chose Words like........
Thankful....
Blessings...

Faith...
Hope...
and the greatest of these...
LOVE....
I Corinthians 13:13

I just could not stop myself.....
Stacks of letters stenciled on old hymnal pages......
Pages already filled with wonderful words of praise...
Coming together to make special new words of praise.....

Becoming Banners......

"a long strip of cloth bearing a slogan or design,
hung in a public place or carried in a procession."

I found the perfect place to hang my banner...
In my dining room across my old door....
A reminder....

Grace.....

"The practice of thanking God for the food before a meal."

Grace.....

"The free and unmerited favor of God,
as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings."

Lord knows we all need a little grace each and every day!
The wonderful thing is.....
It is ours....

To say.....
To accept......

"For the Grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people."
Titus 2:11

Yes, Its a banner kind of day!!!

May the Grace of God Bless your life today!

Blessings!

Sweet Sunday Blessings

Today I want to share with you some of the things around my home.
Things that mean so much to me...
Here at the Farmhouse I have so many pieces of furniture/décor items that I "cherish".......

The sampler that my husband bought for my 26th wedding anniversary.
He wrote such a sweet note on the back...
I will always cherish it.

To cherish.......
Protect and care for (someone) lovingly.....
Hold (something) dear....
Keep (a hope or ambition) in one"s mind.....

This corner cabinet was my Mothers....
It  holds a special place in my heart....

Originally it was a dark wood color.
My husband added the legs and top molding...
I painted it white and added the new knob...

I am reminded of her each time I see it...
Good memories I will always hold dear in my heart.

Cherish means to adore.......
Anyone who knows me realizes how much I love pigs.....
and this little guy is one of my favorites....
I adore his little smiling face in my kitchen...

 cherish means to admire......

The little chopping block the pig sits on in my kitchen is a prize possession of mine.
It was made by my Father in law.
My Mother in law gave it to me a while ago.
I cherish every mark on it...
It has been lovingly used.
I always admired it..

One day she gave it to me...
I will cherish it.
Always!

Cherish means appreciate

This is my dining room table.  It is 10 feet long and seats 12 people.

My husband made this for me......
I so appreciate his craftsmanship.

Its simple but beautiful!
His next venture is to make a long bench for one side of it...
I really appreciate that we are able to sit everyone around the table for dinners..
Its great during the holidays.

Cherish means to value

One of the things I cherish about my home is the view from my dining room windows..
This is such a peaceful place to enjoy meals.
It is also a great place to meet with the Lord.
I value every minute we are able to sit together at this table.
How we are blessed with this view.

Today, I am reminded just how blessed I am on this beautiful but chilly Sunday.
I am very thankful..

It is  important to have things we "Cherish".
Our homes should be filled with beautiful things of great value to us.
Pieces that have a story....
A purpose...
A meaning....
Things that are special blessings...

The greatest blessing we have and should always cherish is the love of Jesus Christ.
Because of that great love towards us.
We should have a great love for others.
Just as He has cherished us...
We should cherish others....

Because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you cherish
towards all Gods people.
Colossians 1:4
