Sweet Scripture Sunday!!!

Friday was my last day as Director of the Homeless shelter.  As I sit here today in my home, while the rain is pouring down,I catch myself thinking....
how quickly life can change.

I have thought about  our friends; Jeff, Mary Lou, Emily, Will and of course, Sam.  How it seemed only yesterday that Sam was running around the Halls of Horse Creek Baptist Church as a toddler and how only a few weeks ago, at the age of 17,  we celebrated Sam's life with a funeral.  Without a doubt, one of the best worship services I have had the pleasure to be part of.

I look outside at my little garden at how the plants are taking a beating from the rainfall,
yet they still stand.......
and choose to yield a crop,
that I get to enjoy.

I think of how much I will be able to accomplish now that I am home.....
I will be able to go through "things"......
throw away "things".....
organize "things"....
Yes, God is good and has blessed me with many "things".

I am thinking mostly about change and how the old saying goes,
"here today and gone tomorrow"!
 How quickly life can change.

I cannot help but wonder, what will be the next "season" God has for me?  I am reminded of Ecclesiastes chapter 3.

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to uproot
A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build,
A time to weep and a time to laugh,
A time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
A time to embrace and a time to refrain,
A time to search and a time to give up,
A time to keep and a time to throw away,
A time to tear and a time to mend,
A time to be silent and a time to speak,
A time to love and a time to hate,
A time for war and a time for peace.

What does the worker gain form his toil?  I have seen the burden God has laid upon men.  He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Yes, as we walk through this life, we see much change or experience many "seasons".  Whatever comes our way; it is all about what we allow God to do with it.  I choose to allow God to do something beautiful!

How about you?

Have a joyous and wonderful Day!

  1. Patty, it is so good seeing you posting again. I have wondered about you. It is good you are in your new home. Can't wait to see pictures. Eccles is my favorite scripture.I had it on the wall over my sink for years. It was read at my Mothers funeral and will be read at mine. Have a great time going through and clearing out!

  2. Blessings Patty, Hope you have a wonderful day. May God always direct your paths. I worked at a facility near the shelter in recent years, that was very stressful. We had 7 of our staff hospitalized that week because of injury sustained from our clients, and the paperwork was just unreal, so I left on lunch break, one day found another job. I prayed that God would keep me safe long enough to finish that week, and He did. I always pray for His direction. I'm sure you do as well.
So good to have you back on your blog.

  3. When a door closes, God opens another. I'm convinced God has a bigger and better door for you whether it be a time at home or something else coming down the road. Blessings to you Patti!

  4. It's good to hear from you again. I have taken a little blogging break myself, sometimes life just gets sooo busy.
I know that God has plans for you and it will be even bigger and better. Sometimes He just has us rest and wait and that is always the hardest part!

  5. God will show you a new door...and there will be so many new blessings coming your way. He has a plan and He loves you so much.
    Hugs- Tete

  6. Enjoyed this post. Visited your friend's blog and learned about Sam. What an awesome young man. I relate, as my sweet Amy went home to the Lord at the age of 21. I left her a message. Thanks for including this in this post. Have a blessed day.

  7. I have wondered how you were doing. I am making some changes here too. I wish you many blessings.

  8. Thanks for stopping by my blog this morning. And yes the Blog header is of me and our dog Amelia walking down the street that runs behind ours; I think my husband caught it all very well. He was aiming for the American flag at the end of the street but caught so much much. You're welcome to "visit" me in Blogland anytime. Changes are all around us all the time and as my Grandma used to say, "You never know what tomorrow will bring".

  9. Hi Patty,

Thank you for stopping by and your kind comments.

Yes, life can change in an instant. I am ever mindful of that since 9/11 and try to show more compassion and kindness as time goes by.

How very sad for someone so young to lose their life.

And what a good experience to assist at a homeless shelter. I wish more people served in some way. It would humble people and make them more appreciative when they do have things - like a job, a home, good health.

    Take care...

Thanks for stopping by The Foothills Farmhouse...Your comments are greatly appreciated. Blessings!
