It is always good to hear from old friends. Today I heard from an old friend of whom I had not seen or heard from in quite some time. It was so good to get to hear from her. We spent close to an hour just catching up and reflecting about old times. We talked about the folks we both knew and how much our kids had grown. We have both gone in different directions. Her to the State Capitol and me to a rescue mission. Boy, how our lives have changed! There are some people regardless of how much distance or change may happen between you still seem to be as close as ever. I still use Becky-isms quite often. I wish we could get together more. Thank God for the phone.........
One of our girls (as we call them) stopped by today. She was on her way to work a small job to make money to pay off her DUI school. She looks good. Her Mom was with her. It is amazing to see how much her mother has changed also. When God does a work in someones life He does it good!
Scott and Bobby finished some detail work today. Hanging blinds, towel racks, etc. Things are coming together. We scheduled our Volunteer training for Dec 30, 2008. The new session will soon be here. I hope we can accomplish all we need to get done before it begins, busy, busy, busy...........
L is struggling with a commitment of 6 more months. she is struggling even more staying clean. You would think the choice would be easy. She needs more time in recovery and more time to finish her GED. She is continually making the wrong decisions about friends and drugs. she needs the six more months. There are so many young people around her dying from drug overdose. I am afraid that she will be on that list if she does not make the commitment to come.
Old friends, old situations and old habits.......

Another Day at the office
It is already Wednesday, where does the week go? Scott and I Scheduled two more interviews for the new session for the end of the week. We will be doing one interview by phone from jail. We also had another interview via phone from a young woman out of state. Hopefully after Friday we will have the first five of the eight girls for the next session. That leaves only three beds available. Every one so far is under 30 years of age. The girls are coming from every type of background and all types of addiction.
Scott has finished all the work for the new edition. He worked so hard. Many days by himself. He has finished another great job. we tore down walls and built on a large dressing/closet area with two large baths. We had some great help with the floors and supplies from some wonderful local folks. One of our directors bought a large heater to heat the area. Bobby was a great help to Scott assisting in some of the building, plumbing and electricity.
We purchased the rest of the supplies for the bath area (towels, shower curtains, rods, etc). I am still amazed at how God supplies all the needs here at the mission. We will finish putting all that together tomorrow. Our annual Sumner Family Christmas time will be this Sunday. Scott and I have bben in charge of that this year. Scott has come up with some fun games. we look forward to get the opportunity to spend time with family.
Tomorrow will be yet another busy day as we will contact all the volunteers for the pre-training that will take place after Christmas. we will also need to make the upcoming daily schedule and the 6 month schedule for special events. In between all this we have to keep up our walk with the Lord. We have yet to get a break to stop and enjoy some time off. We trust God will keep us strong as we will depend upon Him to get us through. Oh ya, I have been studying Proverbs, it has been good. just wish I had more time to study. Scott said he was going to miss being able to walk and pray downstairs in the early mornings in the chapel area when the house fills up. Until next time God bless and Have a great day!

Rainy days and Mondays
Today has been a rainy cold day. It seems that the world should slow down on days like this BUT not at the mission. I have been feeling under the weather today so I did actually get to lay around a little leaving Scott to do all the office work. He had to answer all the calls, HA! He left several things for me to do in the morning.
We have interviewed several girls for the January session. They all seem to be ready to start a clean sober life. Part of me is excited about what is coming and the rest of me is feeling some sort of dread at starting over with a new group of girls. It is always difficult to start a new session. God is always faithful and patient and guides us through. I have come to understand one thing to be true, without God this mission would be impossible.
The girls we have been working on transition with have slowly made different choices with in lives. Sometimes this is so difficult especially when you know they are making choices that may lead them back into addictive behaviors. It is at this point you MUST trust God to do what only He can do. Transition is a time they also have to learn to trust God and depend upon God instead of a drug. It seems that God is showing us that transition is not part of the plan for the mission at this time.
We have enjoyed the quiet evenings here at the mission while the house is empty but the days have been very hetic. Everyone asks how we are enjoying our break. We just laugh to ourselves at the word break. We have not had much of a break. So, for the time being we will enjoy our quiet evenings and early mornings. Until next time ...............
